AirBake Cookie Sheets - 3 Important Questions You Need to Ask

Question 1: Does air baking on cookie sheets make them bake slower than standard baking sheets?

Since air bake cookie sheets insulate and distribute the heat more evenly, you may find for certain recipes that you do need to extend the required baking time for five to ten additional minutes. Unlike standard sheets, you do not have to be concerned about heat fluctuations from your oven that may cause some burnt cookies and some underdone. I know I've been there before!

In my experience, this is not the case always so when first experimenting with air insulating cookie sheets, you'll need to keep an eye on the cookie consistency so it's to your liking.

Question 2: Are air insulated baking sheets easy to clean and dishwasher safe?

Obviously, with any product, you should refer to the cleaning instructions supplied from the particular sheet manufacturer.

However, I have found that to get the extended life out of my cookie sheets and prevent scratching and denigration of the non-stick surface, I only hand wash all my non-stick bakeware, whether insulated or standard.

Now on the other hand, if you do a lot of baking using parchment paper, then there is no reason unless stated by the manufacturer to throw it right into your dishwasher.

Question 3: Can you bake pizza on an air-bake cookie sheet?

Absolutely yes. In fact, you not need any cornmeal or flower to prevent sticking on the surface as opposed to a pizza stone. In my experience, pizza is one food that emerges quite tasty from an air baking.

Even better, many bakers raved so highly about how well pizza tasted on the air bake that manufacturers have specifically made pizza pans with this technology.

So in summary, if you are planning on purchasing these type of baking accessories, try one on for size first as it's really a matter of preference. I use them consistently and to this day have not burned anything at all, something I could not quite claim previously.
