How to Make Your Own Homemade Cookie Bouquets

We've all seen them. Clusters of big, gourmet cookies, individually wrapped in shiny, colored cellophane, with bows and ribbons. They come in many styles and with different treats, toys or gift items attached to or inside a basket or vase of some sort. They make a terrific and edible gift idea. After all, who doesn't love cookies? Sadly, they can be very expensive gifts, especially when considering that cookies don't cost a whole lot to bake.

Here's how to make your own cookie bouquets at home without spending a fortune!

What You Will Need:

* Chopsticks or Wooden Skewers - Make sure they are heat-proof. If you're baking smaller cookies, then popsicle sticks would also work.

* Cookies - Find a delicious cookie recipe that makes larger size cookies, your favorite or your gift recipients favorite will do fine.

* Container - This needs to be a sturdy container that is a bit bottom heavy, especially if you plan to include more than a few big cookies. You can try putting some pebbles in the bottom to make sure the container won't tip over, if needed. Some ideas for containers include: a coffee mug, a metal or plastic pail, a basket, a vase, a planter, cookie jar or glass jar, glass bottle, a toy or wood box of some sort, teapot, porcelain or pottery serving ware.

* Cellophane - The shiny, colored kind looks best, but the colored plastic wrap you get at your local supermarket would work too.

* Ribbon - The curly kind works well for this. Any colors you like.

* Decorations - Anything goes! What's appropriate to the occasion and what does the gift recipient like? Some ideas include: stuffed animals, small toys, candy, balloons, fake or real flowers, stickers or whatever you find at the local craft store.

* Block of styrofoam or florists foam - You know that stereo you bought last December? You probably kept the box, just search your garage for some spare, clean, styrofoam.

* Something to cover up the styrofoam or florist's foam - You can use a big ribbon, some moss, plastic grass, tissue paper crumpled up or whatever else you have handy.

Instructions:

1. When you place the cookie dough on the cookie sheet, press the dough down a bit to flatten it so that it doesn't spread too much while baking and so that the stick can be inserted properly. Before you bake the cookies, you must insert the chopstick or wooden skewer into one side of each cookie. Push it in almost the length of the cookie without going out the other end. This is an important step, as if your cookie is too big and your stick is not sturdy enough, it simply won't hold it and the cookie may fall apart when you pick it up. When baking big cookies, you probably won't be able to fit more than 3 cookies with their sticks to a sheet.

2. After baking the cookies with their sticks, cool the cookies thoroughly, then wrap each one with the colored cellophane. A different color for each cookie would be ok, or all the same color appropriate to the occassion. Tie each one with some curly ribbon at the base where the stick comes out of the cookie. Tie it very tightly so the cookies will stay fresh on the stick. You can adorn each cookie with additional, larger ribbons or bows at this point. When using curly ribbon, don't forget to curl it!

3. Now cut your styrofoam or florist's foam to the size of the top of the container you chose. Then fit the foam in so it is nice and tight and near the top of the container. Remember, you can place something heavier in the bottom of the container so that it does not tip over. Small pebbles work well for this. Remember that the sticks will poke through the foam and into the bottom of the container.

4. Here comes the fun part, let's assemble the cookie bouquet! Take each of your cookies and stick them through the foam so they go all the way through the foam and further, near to the bottom of the container. You can assemble the cookies in any manner you like, but most cookie bouquets have one cookie at the center that is taller than the other cookies, so keep that in mind. Decorate with additional ribbons, toys, candy, flowers, gifts etc. Each item can be attached with additional ribbon to the container or the sticks of the cookies or even with a glue gun (if appropriate).

5. Give your gift and watch the smiles! Make sure to give the bouquet as soon as possible after you have assembled it, you don't want the cookies to go stale!

Tips:

Make sure you bake enough cookies for your container, if baking small cookies, you may run out if you are filling a large container. Always bake more than enough. Surely your extras won't go to waste.

Bake both large and small cookies and use them both in the bouquet for a nice varied look like a more traditional flower bouquet.

More Ideas:

Some cookie bouquets use cutout cookies, these can be fun to make and decorate. Use your favorite sugar cookie cutout recipe and cut into shapes appropriate for the occasion. For cutout cookies to work, you may want to double your sugar cookie recipe as the cookies need to be nice and thick for the stick to go through them. For this type of cookie, wooden skewers will work best, chopsticks may be too thick. Then decorate the cookies with frosting. No need for colored cellophane with these cookies, use regular plastic wrap or clear cellophane so that the beauty of your hand decorated cookies shines through.

Remember, your cookie bouquet doesn't need to look professional, it's the homemade touch that makes it a truly special gift.

Christmas Cookie Baking Recipes

The first beautiful dusting of fluffy white snow always puts me in the mood for baking Christmas cookies. At this time of year I tend to spend longer hours in the kitchen, baking up massive batches of cookies and candies as holiday music and movies play in the background. I love and have always loved the tastes and smells that come from a kitchen filled with love at Christmas time. Here are two of my recipes for traditional Christmas cookie favorites.

Gingerbread Cookies

6 cups flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 tablespoon ground ginger

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon ground cloves

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup shortening, melted and cooled

1 cup molasses

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup water

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a medium bowl, sift the dry ingredients together (flour, baking powder, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon). In a large bowl, mix the shortening, molasses, brown sugar, water, egg, and vanilla. Mix well. Add in the dry ingredient mixture slowly and mix well. Divide the dough into 3 pieces, make into pieces no bigger than 1 1/2 inch thick, wrap and refrigerate for 3 or more hours. Roll the dough (about 1/4 inch thick) out on a slightly floured surface and cut into shapes (smaller shapes work best with this dough). Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Frost with powdered sugar icing (milk or cream and powdered sugar). Word of warning on this recipe, it makes a very large batch so I hope you have a lot of family and friends to share this with.

Sugar Cookies (roll-out)

3 cups flour

1 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 cup soft butter

1 beaten egg

3 tablespoons cream

1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine softened butter and sugar until creamy. Add in egg, cream, and vanilla. Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder and add it to the liquid mixture. Chill for at least one hour. Roll out to about 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface and cut into your favorite Christmas cookie shapes. Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes. If desired, put red and green sprinkles on top of the cookies before putting them in the oven. If you would rather make it a family project, bake the cookies, allow to cool, and make a powdered sugar frosting (milk and powdered sugar). Divide up the frosting into different bowls and color it with food coloring. Sprinkles, chocolate chips, red hots, and mini M&Ms can help add fun to the frosting process.

How to Make No Bake Cookies

Have you ever wondered about how to make no bake cookies?

No bake cookies are a great introduction to the wonderful world of homemade cookies because they are so quick and easy. Once you experience how easy it is to stir up a batch of sweet no bake cookies, you will want to come back to the kitchen and make delicious homemade cookies again and again.

Making no bake cookies is a great introduction to homemade cookie making for kids since mixing and measuring can be less exact than with baked cookies and no oven is required. They are a wonderful way for adults to relive happy memories interconnected with the sweet treats enjoyed during childhood too.

No bake cookies, which became popular in the US during the Great Depression when supplies like eggs, flour, sugar, and butter could be scarce, couldn't be easier.

So, what exactly is the secret for how to make no bake cookies? Just combine crispy, crunchy ingredients like nuts, oats, cereal, or cookie crumbs with sticky, binding ingredients like marshmallows, peanut butter, honey, corn syrup, melted chocolate, or some combination of milk, butter, and sugar.

The only equipment usually necessary is a spoon and a saucepan or bowl, depending on the recipe.

Most no bake cookie recipes have just a few simple instructions that involve melting together the sticky ingredients, stirring in the crispy ingredients, and then pressing the mixture into a pan or dropping it by spoonfuls onto wax paper.

Then all that's required is the patience to wait until the cookies firm up. This process can often be sped along with a little time in the refrigerator.

The first no bake cookies to make it big time were Crispy Rice Treats, which have been around for more than sixty years and are just as popular as ever. With just 3 ingredients sweet treats don't get much easier than this.

Another classic is Butterscotch Haystacks, those delicious mounds of melted butterscotch chips, peanut butter, and crispy chow mein noodles.

Stovetop boiled cookies in a variety of flavors usually involving some combination of rolled oats, sugar, and milk are another longstanding favorite that you probably remember from childhood. Mom usually made her version with cocoa and peanut butter and called her no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies, No Bake Oatmeal Fudgies.

These may be the trickiest to make since the sugar, butter and milk must be boiled long enough for the mixture to firm up when cooled, but not so long as to cause them to get too hard and grainy. The key for how to make no bake cookies such as these seems to be to get the mixture boiling vigorously, before beginning to count the time specified in the recipe.

So, there you have it. Everything you need to know about how to make no bake cookies!

5 tips to get more lift your cookies

There are many recipes for cookies that the techniques include various ingredients, techniques, and also the preparation of yeast. But if you create many recipes and find your cookie is a small apartment, you can find this article useful. Bring a professional baker. I was for years the development of cooking and different culinary tastes that you want to tickle the taste buds, I think not. But I had a problem ... My delicious cookies were stableand did not seem so interesting, even if they were excellent. As a professional baker, I can proudly say my recipes to cook from scratch in a large number of ingredients from scratch. My dough can be difficult, but my stuff I've learned over the years for help.

A common mistake many people make is using a metal spoon or bowl. Believe it or not, glass or wood are the best way to prepare batters, metals react effectively with the rainDough ingredients and effects of baking powder. Try a wooden spoon to mix the dough.

Another common error is using too much baking powder. If you remove too much during cooking, but are more likely to deflate, as bring to boil, or remove them from the oven. If you tried to remove the metal without success, try reducing your sodium by 4.1 to one teaspoon of times.

AnotherTip: set the cooking temperature. You can cook too fast, if you can not do enough. Try lowering the temperature to cook more slowly. If you cook more slowly, have more time to start cooking, in the high state. If cooked too quickly, cook them as an opportunity to educate each.

The situation in the oven is another factor that cookies may be exposed to the elevator, because it coincides with the jaws Temperature. If you start to cook and grill below the upper rack can move the lifting and cooking to help slow down, keep their lift. If this place a pan on the shelf below, you can help the bottom of the cookie cook longer, until the centers and vertices be thoroughly cooked. Is a good trick to avoid Cookie burned while still perfectly baked with a> Cookies.

The last suggestion is the best I've tried to discover, through my cheeks. Reduce the amount of shortening. The reduction of the reduction, the batter is light and does not spread as regards the dough warms up and starts to climb.

I hope you found these tips at home, and experience to try to cook the perfect biscuit.
