Decorative jars are a staple of American homes, and for good reason, too.
Decorative jars are a product of standard cookie jars, though it took a long time to come to that. During the Great Depression, many Americans passed up on bakeries and instead took it to themselves to bake their own pastries and cookies. To lengthen shelf life, of course, they needed to store the cookies in cookie jars. That’s how the cookie jar made its way into the American home.
Over time the cookie jar evolved in purpose – first as a candy jar, and then much later into simply a decorative jar. While you can still store items inside a decorative jar, most people buy decorative jars for the sake of putting them up on display.
Some examples of decorative jars are decorative glass jars, decorative ceramic jars, decorative candy jars, and even decorative cookie jars.
Decorative jars can be bought directly off the shelf. You can find them for sale at novelty shops and department stores. But if you’re feeling creative, you can also try and design your own decorative jar, which is easy.
If you’re new to this, you should settle for simple designs and materials. If you’re working with glass jars, it is possible, if you have the skills for it, to etch your own designs onto the surface of the glass. Otherwise stick to basic designs first until you have enough experience to successfully pull it off.
With that said, make decorative jars a staple in your own home.
